We are called by God to experience, celebrate, and share through our actions the love of God.

Adult Education and Study Groups

Adult Education and Study Groups

Adult education and study groups run from September through May.

Sunday morning
adult classes

9:45 Bible Study (The Chapel) - This group, led by Martha Hendricks, loves to have newcomers as they explore different books of the Bible. This fall they will be discussing “The Beatitudes from the BackSide”, by J. Elsworth Kalas. Jesus tells us we will find happiness by making a "Declaration of Dependence". It takes courage to depend on God. Join us as we discuss these life changing statements by Jesus.

9:45 Faith and Culture Forum (Eastend of the Friendship Room) - Confused??      Frustrated??    Irritated??   Need A Safe Place to Talk??   Or Just Listen?? We are beginning this fall a new opportunity on Sunday mornings to engage in conversation about topics of concern.    John Soderberg is our facilitator.

10:45 Sermon Discussion (Fireside Room) - Please join with other adults each Sunday morning for fellowship and conversation as we explore the ideas and stories of Pastor Dave's sermon. We will receive emails from Dave earlier in the week to introduce us to the topic for the coming Sunday, as well as some thought-provoking questions to ponder. Our Sunday morning discussion should be helpful to all!

10:45 Parents of Young Children (upstairs in the corner Garden Room) - David Miller, dad of two kids, has been gathering with other parents to talk about the joys and challenges of raising kids today. So drop off your kids in their Sunday School classes and join this group of parents interested in the support of others when it comes to the amazing responsibility of raising children

Women's Ecumenical
Bible Study
Monday Mornings - 10:00-11:45 a.m. (Sept.14 –Nov. 16)   WEBS (Women’s Ecumenical Bible Study) has had a wonderful time this fall focusing on Galatians and Thessalonians through the book “Paul for Everyone” by NT. Wright. It was so successful, the group voted to continue with this author and his very engaging approach, and do another of his studies, 1 Corinthians. We would love to have more women join us, so mark your calendars for January 25th, our next start up date. For this ten week series, our group will meet at BUMC, in the Friendship Room. Our mission is to offer women a safe and engaging environment to study the Bible, explore faith questions, and discern how God’s word applies to their life. WEBS is sponsored by four churches, BUMC, St James Episcopal Church, Hope Lutheran Church, and First Presbyterian Church, but women from all around our community are invited to be a part! We have childcare for our young moms. If you have questions, call Kay here at BUMC 586-5413.

Adult Bible Study
Thursday Evening Bible Study goes throughout the school year, but is divided into four to six week segments facilitated by Pastor Dave, or other leaders.  Come whenever you can, or for what series interests you.   Our first series will begin Sept. 24th, with The Gospel of Mark. Dave says, “This is going to be fun: we will use The Message Translation to help us see the gospel and Jesus as a story, intended to introduce us to Jesus as the one who brings God’s message to us in a new way. We want to let the force of the story hit us; to see it as if for the first time.  And in the process, we will look at how we know what we know about Jesus; why the gospel was written; and how peculiar Jesus was. Come, take a new look at the story; as the story of Jesus as part of God’s story and part of our story as well.” Childcare needs? Call Kay.
